With its recent Iisting to the NASQ, the pressure will be on facebook to deliver the results to justify their very high valuation. One of the biggest challenges for facebook is the mobile phone.
With more and more people using facebook on their phones instead of their PC it presents a difficult situation for facebook. Their business model is predominately based on people clicking the adverts; the problem is these ads are not included on the facebook app. Facebook have recently started to include sponsored posts in user’s newsfeeds but will this be enough to create a large income.
According to comScore’s new Mobile Metrix 2.0 report. Facebook users spent an average of 7 hours and 21 minutes per month accessing the social network via smartphones. By comparison, users spent 6 hours and 31 minutes checking out Facebook on PCs. The question is how they capitalise on this mobile use.
The social network has recently launched its own App Centre with over 600 apps. There have also been reports that facebook have been considering a move into hardware by making its own smartphone although this has so far been denied by the company.
It will be interesting to see what their next move will be and how their mobile strategy plays out.
